The LA Dodgers take on the Atlanta Braves at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers are 12-4 and tied with the Washington Nationals for the best record in the National League. The Braves come to Chavez Ravine with a record of 10-6.
First Inning:
Top:
Dodger Pitcher Chris Capuano is in a jam early with two Atlanta runners on base, and then he loads the bases with a walk to Mike Diaz. And just like that, he strikes out Hayward to keep things quiet. No score yet.
Bottom:
Dee Gordon leads off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle, and follows that with a steal against pitcher Jair Jurrjens, reaching third on a sacrifice by Ellis. Kemp then walked. Andre Eithier sent a shot to short right field, sending Kemp to third and Gordon home. Dodgers 1, Atlanta 0.
Second Inning:
Top:
David Ross puts Atlanta puts the second pitch into the center field stands, tying the score. Capuano strikes out pitcher Jurrjens. Dee Gordon then gets his uniform dirty stopping a hard shot to second, and the Dodgers shut the door. Dodgers 1, Atlanta 1
Bottom
Loney gets on with a double to center. A single RBI from Juan Uribe sends Loney home. Then Uribe gets home following a single. Dee Gordon then reaches first on a hit to short center field, but gets shot down trying to steal second. Dodgers 3, Atlanta 1
Third Inning:
Top:
Freddie Freeman gets on base with a single, but stays there as the inning ends. Dodgers 3, Atlanta 1.
Bottom:
Kemp grounds to third. Ethier flies out. Dodgers go quietly.
Dodgers 3, Atlanta 1.
Fourth Inning:
Top:
The Braves put runners on first and third. Following a strike out of Wilson and a meeting on the mound, Dodger pitcher Capuano gets Jurrjens on a 2-4 sacrifice. Bourn grounds to second to end matters for Los Bravos this inning. Dodgers 3, Atlanta 1.
Bottom:
(I have now had dinner, popcorn, a chocolate soft-serve and diet coke. And they haven’t put out the Dodger Dogs yet.) Loney leads off the fourth with a shot to short left for a single. Juan Uribe follows with a single of his own, sending Loney to third. Loney comes home on a single by A.J. Ellis, and the Braves bring in Livan Hernandez. Uribe comes home on a long sacrifice to left by Gordon. Dodgers 5, Atlanta 1.
Fifth Inning:
Top:
Capuano strikes out Freeman. Dan Uggla sends a single to deep left. (Dodger Dogs are now out in the press box. I can smell them.) Heyward sends a bullet right at Loney at first to end the inning. Dodgers 5, Atlanta 1.
Bottom:
The Dodgers have so far welcomed Atlanta reliever Hernandez rudely with a sacrifice by Gordon, a single by Kemp, and another by Ethier. Ethier was then caught in a double play. Still Dodgers 5, Atlanta 1.
Sixth Inning
Top:
Bravos go 1-2-3. Gone.
Bottom:
Loney flies out to center. Uribe singles to short center. A double play ends the inning. Dodgers 5, Atlanta 1.
Seventh Inning:
Top:
Following an Atlanta single, Prado flies out to deep center. A double play ends the inning. Capuano is done for the night, after 108 pitches and 60 strikes. Dodgers 5, Atlanta 1.
Bottom:
Tony Gwynn Jr. sends a shot right at the shortstop. Two ground outs follow. Dodgers 5, Atlanta 1.
8th Inning:
Top:

(This just in: Aerosmith/RunDMC’s Walk this Way” wins the Dodger Jukebox” contest.)
Bottom:
Matt Kemp opens the inning with a single. His buddy Ethier follows with one of his own. Pinch hitter Adam Kennedy sacrifices 1-3 to send the runners to second and third. Dodgers 7, Atlanta 2.
