It’s good to be back.
We visited Dodger Stadium for the Dodgers’ first home stand last week against the SanĀ Diego Padres. (You saw our postings on our Facebook page.) The Dodgers were riding a six-game winning streak and holding the best record in the majors.
Dodger slugger Matt Kemp opened the first inning with a 2-run homer against rookie Joe Weiland, who was shelled for the remainder of the contest, until he was pulled in the sixth.
Andre Ethier followed Kemp’s shot with one of his own, and the Dodgers. led by pitcher Ted Lilly (1-0, 0.43 ERA), took a quick lead which they never relinquished. The home team finished off the Padres 6-1, to extend their winning streak to seven games.
As both Dee Gordon and Ethier told us before the game, the team isn’t surprised at their fast ride out of the starting gates.
“We always expect to win,” said Gordon. “Every game.”
The Dodgers, 10-3, beat Milwaukee today, 4-3, and are now headed to Texas for a two-game series against the Houston Astros. They’ll meet the Atlanta Braves at Dodger Stadium Monday.
